Bitter End - Live and new EP

Deathwish Records is putting out some live records (Converge, Blacklisted, Pulling Teeth) and the last one was the Bitter End show at Sound & Fury 2007, you can download it here and it's legal. BITTER END - Live S&F'07

Bitter End also released a new 7" last month, through Deathwish and it's worth to give it a listen. They're still playing this kind of powerfull NYHC ala Agnostic Front, Leeway and the Mags of course mixed with some metallic influences. 2 songs on this new record if you except the intro, both last more than 4 minutes and are kind of epic.

"
Running a race against time / Living life not my only crime / Sins of the past coming to bite me back / A circle of pain / An endless track.

Face to face with consequences / Gotta fix the wrong / Seeing the error in my ways / Placed here for a reason / I need to make due and not waste away / Find a path in the darkness out of this purgatory."

Ieper Fest "Sun"day report.

Finally. I made it, i went to Ieper for the first time of my life to attend one of the biggest hardcore punk (metal???) independent (???) events of the summer.
I missed Rhythm To The Madness (feat ex or current members of Justice, Rise and Fall, Think It Through) and some crappy metal shit (Cephalic Carnage, Folsom, Despised Icon). Endzweck were not that good, shitty sound...
Shipwreck (AD) played and that was really better than the first time i saw them , in December. They ended their set with Footsteps, massive.
I can't remember which band came after but Verse played a really tight show mixing new songs and some old ones (not that much from the first album and that was pretty disappointing). The crowd was singing under the rain. They improved a lot since the first time I saw them in 2005 (they had the original drummer on this tour) and i really appreciate Sean's way of sing on stage. This guy seems to fly over the stage.
Have Heat came next, and i was really disappointed. The singer, which is pretty good on records, sucks live. I alsp expected some old songs from both demo and 'What Counts' 7" like 'Lionheart'.

HAVE HEART - What Counts

Rise and Fall were huge as usual mixing some Entombed death'n roll style with Cleveland influences. I can't wait for their next record which
The Locust were boring. I just can't understand that kind of music...
I don't think i'll come back to this fest, the disrespectful attitude of some people was discouraging: amounts of garbage , drunk people everywhere .... That's not what I expect from that kind of festival. But i've to admit that the vegan burgers and cookies were great ahah.

CRAP CRAP CRAP

YES, i'm the crapiest blogger ever. I'm the laziest guy ever too.
(and it's the third post that says " i suck"). Things went fast: new job, new opportunities, new friends so i didn't get enough time to set this blog up and post new shit.

But things are going to change. Expect some new reviews and reports soon (Ieper Fest, Free Edge fest and summer shows in Paris). Interviews are the way too. (Dirty Money/Grand Master Beatdown for exemple).

Peace

Wow.

I haven't posted any message for a long time........
I apologize but things went pretty bad these few last weeks: work, family problems etc. So i couldn't get committed to any blog update.
But things are going better now and i've still this motivation to post some shitty reviews and reports.

With a friend, we definitely decided to start a fanzine so keep your eyes open.
Peace.

Cruel Hand vs Miles Away

Last week end I was in Barcelona chillin' with some dudes from Toulouse, and they were booking a show for Miles Away, Cruel Hand, both melodix hardcore bands This is A Standoff and Actionmen and the first show ever for A Bridge To Many, the local support for this night. A Bridge To Many started the show, playing their first concert ever and I had a blast: this 15 year old drummer is gonna be huge. They play some fast hardcore with melodic parts like Carry On, Count Me Out, American Nightmare (they covered AM/PM for the pleasure of some chosen few) or Another Breath. And it went good. Can't wait to have some tracks on a demo.

Then, Actionmen played. I saw them last summer in Toulouse and the surprise effect wasn't the same this time but they are really good at what they do. Cruel Hand and Miles away dudes were stoked seeing this "musical"/theater play .

Following up next, This Is A Standoff features ex members of Belvedere. Ok.
I didn't get that much into the melodies and the whole thing was just boring.
Co headlining the show, Cruel Hand, coming straight from Maine-USA, just settle the score. They feature some Outbreak members. Raw, fast and aggressive hardcore, really well played (the drummer is awesome) and they ended with Cro-Mags' World Peace. MASSIVE.

Then, Miles Away played. I expected some modernfag hardcore but their set is pretty straight forward and agressive. They definitely have a good attitude on stage and covered Count Me Out and Floorpunch.
The dudes in Cruel Hand and Miles Away are really good ppl and I can only encourage you to support them.

Department of Youth Services II

Second part of some youth crew records reviews. Last week I caught some new 7"s: The First Step, True Colors, the Keep It Clear tape (review just below) and the One Kind Word fanzine/compilation.

Here we go. The First Step is releasing "Connection" their 2nd EP and 4th release (Demo, Open Hearts & Clear Minds 7", What We Know LP and now this one. And they don't change the formula. Plain and simple old school hardcore, with simple lyrics, simple layout. They just play some generic but great youth crew . And i think that's enough to please me.

Still hot from Powered Records, True Colors are releasing some new hardcore anthems. And they are definitely true to the game. Straight Edge Youth Crew with agressive vocals (Packo improved a lot from the Building period). That "No Way Out" song with the mid tempo ending is a hit song. Not much more to say. Just dig the record (1st press is almost sold out).

TRUE COLORS - "Perspective" Release Show

And finally, Cycle Records (Barcelona) put out the second issue of One Kind Word Fanzine, coming up with a 7" compilation: Get The Most, Go For Broke, Common Cause and Cinder.

LIGHT IN THE DARK

YO YO YO!
i'm back.

i spent these last days working or sleeping ahah. god damn stupid life.
But i'm just enjoying to drop some lines on this blog. As my buddy ROD, i've been to this Justice (Be) last show in Temse (Belgium) last saturday and I definitely had a blast.
Driving from Tours to Belgium and getting back was a pretty boring experience, even if my bros from Angers, Tours and Paris were such an endless source of entertainement: "THE ROOM" (do not ever watch this movie!). After a stop off in Paris, city of lights, we drove straight to Belgium, and arrived with like 4 hours lead ahah. After having encourage a local youth football team (annoying them a bit too ahah) we finally met up some frenchies (about 30 of us were there this night) and entered the venue, some classic village hall, pretty big (about 600 people), filled in about 30 minutes. People were sticking the merch tables like flies on a honey jar.

Seed of Pain started and nobody seemed to care ... weird.

Then Hoods Up, and i felt a bit disppointed about them, not that energetic. they covered YOT Break Down The Walls. 65/88 on the cruciality scale because of their feebleness.

Dirty Money played next. Nike and Supreme Hats yo!
Nuclear show but i expected that killer Leeway cover intro (Rise & Fall). BTW, these guys are huge on stage. Good flavour. 90/91 on the agressivity scale ahah.

True Colors 's next. A Time We'll Remember as starter, new songs and TC anthems as main course and Turning Point Insecurity as special dessert! CRUCIAL. 89/88
(here's a TC new song from the Perspective 7", review coming soon)

Guru George and the Blacklisteds hit the stage, and people just went nuts. Ivory Tower, Tourist, Long Way Home and all the atomic hit songs were preformed with a special featuring on Memory Lane by ROD Hellion.
"You've seen my worlds at war, when I unlock my door, showed you the things I'd hoped you'd never see. You just said "Oh George, you could be so much more, you lost your way it's a damn shame...""

Then, and for the last time ever, Justice arrived on the stage.Pure intensity, energy, anger. Great times for great dudes. We'll miss that band for sure. (maybe not in France because of our love for beatdown metal and that kind of crap....).
"you're nailed to your couch and that's where you'll stay eyes peeled on the tv did you know your life slips down the drain things you promised to do usually never happen right away tomorrow always stays tomorrow tired, always tired of you i refuse to be like you going for the crumbs along for the ride on the back of someone you gotta push it to the edge."

Wilkes Barre Goldmine

Wilkes Barre, PA seems to be the place to be when you're playing hardcore punk music. Led by freshest hardcore hype Cold World, this scene is growing fast. Cold World have just released their discography 'No Omega' on 1917Records, containing both Ep's and split with War Hungry. They incarnate the mix of some early Biohazard, Life Of Agony, Cro-Mags with lots of hiphop influences (GZA, Mobb Deep, Public Enemy, Kool G Rap etc...) It results some fresh and dancing tunes. lyrics are sometimes cynical or full of anger, and sometimes kind of generic with some funny/street credible words:
"I'm sorry, but someone has to lose in the game of life.
And tonight that someone is you.
We went from boyz II men living in sin.
Waiting for the world to end.
I'm gonna do my thing no doubt.
No matter what comes out of your mouth.
Real recognize real, it's true.
And I just can't recognize you. "
I love it. for those who don't have ep's, you should check this record out (comes with a dvd on its cd version) myspace.com/thecoldworld

Same influences for War Hungry (they share a split 7" with Cold World) but on this new EP 'Return to Earth', they manage with some Entombed, Black Sabbath and a huge stoner edge. Really groovy riffs and some powerfull vocals, far from hardcore cliches. War Hungry is about to come one of the best hardcore band around. Keep an eye on these guys. myspace.com/whwb

Department of Youth Services I

Some bands have drawn my attention at the beginning of this year.

Keep It Clear (what a generic name, love it) are coming from Vancouver BC and features ex members of Go It Alone, Blue Monday, Get The Most... If you're into generic straight edge hardcore like Floorpunch, Chain Of Strength and Youth Of Today, dig this band. They released a demo tape (euro release by Nico Sailin' On Zine, available through High Hopes Distro for french kids). myspace.com/xkeepitclearx.

Oh, about Get The Most, their demo just got re released on one 7" by React Records, 4 tracks and a cover of Insted 'Good Times.' myspace.com/getthemosthc

React Records is also about to re release the legendary Breakthrough demo with remastered tracks and one unreleased song. More informations soon.

No man is stronger than....

From a time i'll never know by myself, here's a vid of Mass' TEN YARD FIGHT last show, in Boston 1999. The track is Glory Bound from 'The Only Way' EP. Lyrics are kinda generic and basic but it seemed to mean something to these kids, back in the days.

English Dogs.

Let's start with Dirty Money, the hardcore hype on this side of the Channel. Tough hardcore with some groovy parts, heavy breaks, angry vocals etc.... but with something special, dunno exaclty what but this record is really blowing away. Think about the reunion of Cro Mags, No Warning "s/t" and some bands like Outburst or Death Threat but with some modern edge.
The lyrics remain always simple but strong and agressive. I also love the layout and cover: streetwise and reality united ahah.
So now, use your petrodollars and buy this record. Out on Dead& Gone Records.

Oh, they're going to Europe in June, with Lion of Judah (harDCore) and Trapped Under Ice (review coming soon) so check out the dates and get your minds ruined.
